United Service Organizations | Support the USO

I know you’ve seen them all over the world as you grew up.  Most of us are used to seeing the USO on TV hosted by Bob Hope and a bevy of the worlds most beautiful girls bringing cheer and hope to the men and women of the military serving around the world.  They have given so unselfishly, never asking for anything for themselves, only asking for help to support their efforts and their programs.  I think it’s long past time that we give back to those who have been helping our military men and women for so many years.  Check out the USO now. Our Troops Need Your Help. Show them that America still cares. Give what you can today.

The USO is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress — and enduring style of USO delivery — is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military. The USO currently operates more than 130 centers worldwide, including ten mobile canteens located in the continental United States and overseas. Overseas centers are located in Germany, Italy, the United Arab Emirates, Japan, Qatar, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, Guam, and Kuwait. Service members and their families visit USO centers more than 5.3 million times each year. The USO is the way the American public supports the troops.

Since World War II, the USO has been a steadfast supporter of military personnel around the world. While times have changed, the USO mission has remained the same: to boost the morale of service members and serve as the link between them and the American people. Today the USO delivers its programs and services to 1.4 million active duty service members and 1.2 million National Guard and Reserves as well as their families at more than 130 centers located worldwide.

Services include information referral services, Internet and e-mail access, housing and emergency assistance and support groups, to name a few.

The USO recognizes the sacrifices that service members and their families make for this country, and it is more important than ever that they are remembered and supported. The USO offers a variety of programs and services that support the morale, welfare, social and entertainment needs of American service men and women and their families. With the help of its supporters, the USO continues to provide a "home away from home" to service men and women around the world.

Historically, few events have left a more lasting emotional impression on service members and their families than USO celebrity entertainment tours. Since the USO’s inception in 1941, thousands of celebrities have boosted the morale of troops in times of peace and war.

Celebrities give selflessly of their time and talents, traveling to foreign countries and to installations in the United States. They are there to shake hands, sign autographs, teach clinics, and help service members and their families feel a little closer to home. Entertainers come from many different backgrounds with a variety of talents. They visit the most remote military installations and receive no talent fees. Performances often take place in unique locations, such as airplane hangers, flatbed trucks, military tents and bunkers.

USO entertainers are essential to fulfilling the USO’s mission of boosting troop morale. The USO’s long-standing tradition of sending entertainers overseas will carry on as long as service members are stationed far from home.

On Patrol at the Front: it’s lonely… desolate… and still far too dangerous for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s difficult, too, for the families and kids they’ve left behind. So, at the USO, we have a mission…

To make sure all 170,000 of these courageous men and women–who are risking their lives every day, for us –know they have not been forgotten.

Without your support, our mission may fail. Give to Military Charity. Support US troops at home & abroad. Give what you can to the USO.

On behalf of those we serve, Thank You!
