Thankful for Your Service

Good morning and a belated "Happy Thanksgiving" to all of you reading this.

I especially want to pledge my support and eternal thanks to those of you who are now serving or have ever in your life served our country.  Your job is never easy;  often unappreciated;  often scorned;  never over, often blamed for the decisions of politicians and rarely ever given credit for the self-sacrifice you make every day of your lives.

But the question often comes up by well-meaning, good-hearted liberals:  Why do we need the military?  They are so expensive!  We can negotiate with the misunderstood people of the world.  Is that so…

Today there was a common thread in the news:  Mumbai hit by terrorists.  The Taj Hotel in Mumbai, India.

"Several hostages are still in the Taj hotel and another 100 people are believed to be trapped in the Oberoi hotel, police said. Police conceded that there were some casualties among the commandos.

So far, 125 people have been killed, including 14 policemen and six foreigners, and 327 injured in a series of terrorist attacks in Mumbai since Wednesday evening. Security forces from the Indian army, navy, National Security Guard and Rapid Action Force got involved in the raging encounter with heavily-armed terrorists.

In the first ever press conference by the Indian Navy commandos, a masked officer said the terrorists were firing with AK series automatic rifles and hurling grenades inside the Taj hotel. "Definitely they were trained. Not everybody can fire AK series weapons. Using such weapons and explosives, it is obvious they were trained somewhere," said the officer.

A group calling itself Deccan Mujahideen has claimed responsibility for the attacks. However, "external forces" are being blamed for the violence - a phrase sometimes used to refer to Pakistani militants, whom Indian authorities often blame for attacks. Pranab Mukherjee, the country’s foreign minister, was more explicit. "According to preliminary information, some elements in Pakistan are
responsible," he said."

Do you see what is going on here?  There was a small headline in the paper today stating that the Iraqi parliament has tentatively approved a plan for U.S. troop withdrawal.  We are approaching the end of the conflict in Iraq, hopefully.  Afghanistan is still smoking.  India is suffering.  What do we see as a common thread here?

We see evidence of AK series automatic rifles:  Автомат Калашникова образца 1947 года; Avtomat Kalashnikova obraztsa 1947 goda; "Kalashnikov’s automatic rifle model of year 1947" …my goodness oh my goodness!  Isn’t that the devil-designed little assault rifle designed, developed and PRODUCED by the Russians?  Even to this day?

"Using such weapons and explosives, it is obvious they were trained somewhere"…Iran, Pakistan?

We are facing a world-wide confrontation with a very specific enemy.  Now I know that "profiling is supposed to be bad" but explain that to murdered soldiers, peacekeepers and law enforcement officials all over the world.

We are facing an enemy who is afraid to be seen in the light.  They are the Sons of Darkness.

They like to cover their faces with cloth…masks.

They like to fire missiles from within synagogues, mosques, churches, hospitals, hotels and schools where they can be "protected" by surrounding themselves with women and children.  Then, if and when fire is returned upon them, they scream persecution because we have killed their innocent women and children.

They strap explosives around their waists, cover them up, walk into a crowded public area and detonate, killing and wounding civilians.

They often use weapons manufactured in Russia.  They very often originate from one of three or four specific middle-eastern countries.

They often use force, fear and harassment to control their people.

Is it becoming clear what we are up against?  Cowards.  Their only desire in the world is death.  Death to themselves and to anyone who disagrees with them.  They have no remorse for killing women, children, the elderly, anyone of convenience.  They fear not death; they embrace it as an honor.

That my friends paints a pretty specific picture of a typical terrorist.  That is why we need the military.  The military is working around the clock, 365 days a year forever to protect us from them.

We need to get down on our knees today and pray to God for His intervention, guidance and wisdom in fighting against these soldiers of the dark.  We need to thank God each and every day for our sons and daughters, our family and friends who are serving in the military to protect us from this evil disease called Terrorism.

American Voters - Think Hard!

American Valor has just published our new page:  American Voters  It presents a very compelling video and it DOES NOT tell you who you should vote for. Just gets you thinking.  Now keep an open mind and an open heart as you evaluate the values of the candidates.  I have done my research and I know what the basic positions are that the two candidates McCain and Obama stand for.  Based on that I am ready to make my vote count.

However, I will not go over the issues with you.  For me to review the issues and how each candidate stands would be for me to lead you in a particular direction.  I will not do that.  I will only say that if you are strong in your faith; study the candidates positions and vote with your faith…there is only one choice you can make that really matters.

Some things are more important than high gas prices or a faltering economy. They are life, family, marriage and faith. This November, Christians will have one vote to change the world. Vote your values!

American Presidential Election

American Presidential Election

Dad received an email from a good friend today with the following message attached about the Presidential elections coming up in November.  If you are totally happy with the current events in our nation you may as well click out of here to another site.  Maybe Disney. COM or some other fantasy site.  However, if you, like Dad, are fed up to the gills with the way things are, then read on.

Dad reminds you that this is not directed at Obama or McCain individually.  This is the result of many years of being a part of the great silent majority and believing in the credo "Don’t Tread on Me!"

We have been the peacekeeper and policeman to the world.  We have financed aid to 100’s of nations.  We have fought for and financed food and health aid for 100’s of countries over the course of history.  We have been "right there", "Johnnie on the Spot" to help protect many countries from invasion.  We have always stood for and fought for freedom at home and abroad.

WOULDN’T IT BE GREAT TO TURN ON THE TV AND HEAR ANY ONE OF THE U.S.  PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES, DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN, GIVE THE FOLLOWING SPEECH?

"My Fellow Americans: As you all know, the defeat of the Iraq regime has been completed.

Since congress does not want to spend any more money on this war, our mission in Iraq is complete.

This morning I gave the order for a complete removal of all American forces from Iraq This action will be complete within 30 days. It is now time to begin the reckoning.

Before me, I have two lists. One list contains the names of countries which have stood by our side during the Iraq conflict. This list is short. The United Kingdom , Spain , Bulgaria , Australia , and Poland are some of the countries listed there.

The other list contains every one not on the first list. Most of the world’s nations are on that list. My press secretary will be distributing copies of both lists later this evening.

Let me start by saying that effective immediately, foreign aid to those nations on List 2 ceases immediately and indefinitely. The money saved during the first year alone will pretty much pay for the costs of the Iraqi war. THEN EVERY YEAR THERE AFTER IT’ll GO TO OUR SOCIAL SECURITY SYSTEM SO IT WONT GO BROKE IN 20 YEARS.

The American people are no longer going to pour money into third world Hellholes and watch those government leaders grow fat on corruption.

Need help with a famine? Wrestling with an epidemic? Call France

In the future, together with Congress, I will work to redirect this money toward solving the vexing social problems we still have at home. On that note, a word to terrorist organizations. Screw with us and we will hunt you down and eliminate you and all your friends from the face of the earth.

Thirsting for a gutsy country to terrorize? Try France or maybe China .

I am ordering the immediate severing of diplomatic relations with France , Germany , and Russia . Thanks for all your help, comrades. We are retiring from NATO as well. Bonne chance, mez amies.

I have instructed the Mayor of New York City to begin towing the many UN diplomatic vehicles located in Manhattan with more than two unpaid parking tickets to sites where those vehicles will be stripped, shredded and crushed. I don’t care about whatever treaty pertains to this. You creeps have tens of thousands of unpaid tickets. Pay those tickets tomorrow or watch your precious Benzes, Beamers and limos be turned over to some of the finest chop shops in the world. I love New York !

A special note to our neighbors. Canada is on List 2. Since we are likely to be seeing a lot more of each other, you folks might want to try not pissing us off for a change.

Mexico is also on List 2. Its president and his entire corrupt government really need an attitude adjustment. I will have a couple extra thousand tanks and infantry divisions sitting around. Guess where I am going to put ‘em? Yep, border security.

Oh, by the way, the United States is abrogating the NAFTA treaty - starting now.

We are tired of the one-way highway. Immediately, we’ll be drilling for oil in Alaska - which will take care of this country’s oil needs for decades to come. If you’re an environmentalist who opposes this decision, I refer you to List 2 above: pick a country and move there.

It is time for America to focus on its own welfare and its own citizens. Some will accuse us of isolationism. I answer them by saying, "damn tootin."

Nearly a century of trying to help folks live a decent life around the world has only earned us the undying enmity of just about everyone on the planet. It is time to eliminate hunger in America It is time to eliminate homelessness in America . To the nations on List 1, a final thought. Thank you guys. We owe you and we won’t forget.

To the nations on List 2, a final thought: You might want to learn to speak Arabic.

God bless America . Thank you and good night."

If you can read this, thank a teacher. If you are reading it in English, thank a soldier.

God Bless America!

Presidential Race

Presidential Race

The following article was written by RenewAmerica author Felicia Benamon.  I believe Felicia has captured the very essence of what the average American voter is faced with and thinking as they approach election day.  Thank you Felicia for a job well done and for being brave enough to speak the truth.

I’ve had some time to relax and reflect on the direction of our country and what steps we should take to ensure its prosperity.

In viewing the election, I’ve come to the conclusion that John McCain is the best choice. Earlier in the election season, I was indeed adamantly against voting for McCain and instead, touted third party candidates. Those who have decided on voting for a third party candidate…let’s face it, they will not get the proper coverage necessary for the American public to see their views and plans for this country. The media has concentrated on the two party candidates, John McCain and Barack Obama. The race is now solidly between the two.

I am not negating the importance of third party candidates (candidates who usually have a differing view than the two party system), but if they are going to be serious challengers to the two party system, they must become more organized than they are currently. There is a lot of confusion, and voters considering third party candidates are split between the Constitution party, the Libertarian party, and America’s Independent Party. Third party candidates’ agenda would be better served if they could meet somewhere in the middle, come together under one political party banner.

However strong I may be against John McCain’s globalist leanings, he has bravely served his country. For his valiant effort to remain strong during torturous years in Vietnam and for his service, I am grateful and respect him. I am inclined to support a person of valor who knows the importance of supporting our troops’ mission in battle and who I KNOW will be an advocate for our troops.

His partner, Vice Presidential pick Sarah Palin is a bright light which this nation hasn’t had a privilege to see in a long time. Strong, sassy, beautiful, and conservative, Sarah Palin is a REAL woman who tells it like it is and isn’t afraid to play hardball against the entrenched politicians in Washington. I know she will hold her own in the White House.

Because I don’t put my hope in a politician, it will not matter who is in office as long as the hearts of the American people are fixed on God and are right with Him. When we are right with God, we can realize our gifts and use them to affect positive change and cause our leaders to take notice. Whether McCain is elected or not, our job is not to sit back and become disillusioned. We are to be active in keeping the American spirit alive…keeping it as a beacon for freedom and strength in the world. We must demand of our leaders that they hear us. And part of that is making the right choice at the voting booth.

I’ve had time to think, pray, and reflect. Now, I have made my choice. It is my hope that those who read this will vote in the best interest of our nation and allow God to have His way in their lives. Real hope lies in the Lord Jesus Christ, and not any particular politician.

Pray for our leaders and our country.

US Soldiers Gain Baggage Decision

Soldiers going off to war or returning home should not have to pay a baggage fee of any kind, ever.

Now it seems that since our last post, based on an August Washington Post article, American Airlines is changing their tune.  Pat, one of our readers and a military mom AND an American Airlines agent advised us that this is no longer the case.  According to the Conners Report on the KMOV TV Channel 4 web log out of St Louis, MO:

“…So, now, there is some good news … at least from American Airlines.  In the face of all the publicity and outcry … American Airlines is doing what should have been done in the beginning.  American Airlines will no longer charge our troops for a third bag. “

Thank you Pat, thank you KMOV TV 4, and thank you to all the people who raised the dickens about this absurd practice and got it changed.

Soldiers pay bag fee

Soldiers pay bag fee on travel to war

VFW seeks airline waiver, not reimbursement form

Sometime back this article appeared in the Washington Times Online Newspaper.  I don’t know about you but this really irks Dad.  It sounds to me like the real problem here may be with American Airlines.  You would think a company with such a notable name would lead the pack in helping our military personnel both going to and coming home from war.  Does it always have to be about the almighty dollar?  Come on American, live up to your name.”American Airlines is charging troops for their extra baggage, a practice that forces soldiers heading for a war zone in Iraq to try to get reimbursement from the military. One of the country’s largest veterans groups is asking the aviation industry to drop the practice immediately.

American, which recently charged two soldiers from Texas $100 and $300 for their extra duffel bags, said it gives the military a break on the cost for excess luggage and that the soldiers who incur the fees are reimbursed.

“Because the soldiers don’t pay a dime, our waiver of the fees amounts to a discount to the military, not a discount to soldiers,” said Tim Wagner, spokesman for American Airlines. “Soldiers should not have to pay a penny of it.”

Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) spokesman Joseph Davis said service members destined for Iraq should not have to spend the money out of pocket and should not have to worry about filing expense forms in a war zone.

“That’s a lot to ask when the service member has much more important things on their minds, such as staying alive and keeping those around them alive,” he said.

The VFW is asking the Air Transport Association (ATA) to urge member airlines to exempt military personnel traveling on official orders from all excess-baggage fees. “This should not be a very difficult decision to make,” Mr. Davis said.

In a written statement to The Washington Times, James C. May, president and chief executive officer of the ATA, said it is individual airlines that must determine fare rates.

“Air Transport Association member airlines have always been committed to supporting our nation’s military,” he said.

“Airlines routinely offer special fares for military personnel and families, attempt when possible to accommodate unplanned schedule changes and generally seek to do what they can to show their appreciation,” Mr. May said.

Most major U.S. carriers waive baggage fees for up to two bags for military members traveling under orders, Mr. Lisicki said. However, a $100 fee for checking a third bag appears to be the industry norm, except for first-class passengers or elite frequent fliers.

US Airways allows military personnel with identification free luggage up to 100 pounds, and Delta allows two bags up to 70 pounds in the cargo hold, as does Northwest.”

Granted, this story dates back to mid-August but I have seen no followup as yet.  Is American Airlines still gouging American military members goiing to and from war or have they modified their policy.  If anyone has additional information please let me know and we will clarify this gross injustice to our soldiers.

THE COLONEL AND MR. LINCOLN

THE COLONEL ANGER

THESE ARE STRONG, POWERFUL AND COURAGEOUS WORDS COMING FROM A RETIRED COLONEL!  Dad is really grabbing this one and running with it.  It is a bit dated but still appropriate.

33 Senators Voted Against English as America ’s Official Language on June 6, 2007.

On Wed. 6 June 2007, Colonel Harry Riley, USA , Ret. wrote:

"Senators:

Your vote against an amendment to the immigration Bill 1348…. to make English America’s official language is astounding.

On D-Day, no less, when we honor those that sacrificed in order to secure the bedrock, character and principles of America , I can only surmise your vote reflects a loyalty to illegal aliens.

I don’t much care where you come from. What your religion is. Whether you’re black, white, or some other color…male or female……Democrat, Republican or Independent……. But I do care when you are a United States Senator representing Citizens of America…and Vote against English as the official language of the United States.

Your vote reflects Betrayal; Political Surrender; Violates Your Pledge of Allegiance; Dishonors historical principle; Rejects Patriotism; Borders on traitorous action and, in my opinion, makes you unfit to serve as a United States Senator…impeachment…Recall……..Or other appropriate action is warranted, or worse.

Four of you voting against English as America ’s Official Language are Presidential Candidates: Senator Biden, Senator Clinton, Senator Dodd and Senator Obama. Four Senators vying to lead America , but won’t, or don’t, have the courage to cast a vote in favor of English as America ’s Official Language when 91% of American Citizens want English officially designated as our language.

This is the second time in the last several months this list of Senators have disgraced themselves as ‘political’….. Unworthy as Senators and certainly unqualified to serve as President of the United States .

If America is as angry as I am, you will realize a backlash so stunning it will literally ‘rock you out of your socks’……… And preferably totally out of the United States Senate. The entire immigration bill is a farce… Your action only confirms this really isn’t about America … it is about self-serving politics……despicable at best.

It has been said: ‘Never Argue with an Idiot….They’ll drag you down to their level!’

PRESIDENT ABRAHAM LINCOLN SAID: ‘Congressmen who willfully take actions during wartime that damages morale and undermine the military are saboteurs and should be arrested, quickly tried and hanged!!!’

We have recently discovered that this "Quote"  attributed to President Lincoln was in fact bogus.  The reference to Congressmen was made by a published author who knowingly created the line and implied that Lincoln made the remarks.  That quote is BOGUS, Lincoln did NOT make that statement!  Thank you Tina.

Now we get into a little OPINION by Dad. Having spent nine years in the military during the Vietnam era I will go on record with this comment:

During time of war, Congressmen and entertainers who willfully take actions that damage morale, undermine the military, and speak out against the President and the military should be dealt with, not hanged, but dealt with.  Movie stars and wanna be politicians have NO BUSINESS going to a foreign country that we are at war with and having private meetings with the enemy and then speaking out against the course of action of the United States.  This is so close to being treason as to justify severe inquiry into their actions.

Another way of looking at it is this:

Treason is when a U.S. citizen attempts by overt acts to overthrow or seriously harm the U.S. government. The US Constitution actually defined the offense and penalty for treason in Article 3 Section 3 According to, Article 2, Section 4 of the Constitution, if an official of the U.S. government commits treason, he or she can be impeached, convicted and removed from office. The requirements for conviction of treason are intentionally narrow, allowing for only a confession or an accusation from two direct witnesses of the treasonous act.
As I said before, hang…No.   Dealt with?  Definitely

Dangerous Fanatics

American Valor

I just received this today from a close friend. It is an interesting view from a slightly different angle.  It is ironic that I was exchanging views on Iraq just this morning as an extension of an Obama issue. I remain convinced that the decision to engage the war against terrorists in Iraq is a good decision. Many disagree.

As Joseph Campbell put it in his last book The Inner reaches of Outer Space: Metaphor as Myth and as Religion  the three primal instincts of humans are:

To feed

To Procreate

To Dominate

Peace has never been what people are about. Human history is a collection of stories about slavery and warfare. It is surprising how much slavery continues today. Decisions by a few control the behavior of the masses. That is the way it has always been and the way it is likely to be far into the future.

This article should scare all of us.  It is so true that it is normally not a whole group that gets to us.  It is not normally a majority that decides or controls anything (i.e., our Great Silent Majority).  It is the squeaky wheel that get greased.   It is the raving fanatic that gains control and gets their way with all of us most of the time.  Devour this translation as if your very life depends on it…it just may.

A German’s View on Islam

A man, whose family was German aristocracy prior to World War II, owned a number of large industries and estates. When asked how many German people were true Nazis, the answer he gave can guide our attitude toward fanaticism. "Very few people were true Nazis," he said, "but many enjoyed the return of German pride, and many more were too busy to care.

I was one of those who just thought the Nazis were a bunch of fools. So, the majority just sat back and let it all happen. Then, before we knew it, they owned us, and we had lost control, and the end of the world had come. My family lost everything. I ended up in a concentration camp and the Allies destroyed my factories."

We are told again and again by "experts" and "talking heads" that Islam is a religion of peace, and that the vast majority of Muslims just want to live in peace. Although this unqualified assertion may be true, it is entirely irrelevant. It is meaningless fluff, meant to make us feel better, and meant to somehow diminish the spectra of fanatics rampaging across the globe in the name of Islam.

The fact is that the fanatics rule Islam at this moment in history. It is the fanatics who march. It is the fanatics who wage any one of 50 shooting wars worldwide. It is the fanatics who systematically slaughter Christian or tribal groups throughout Africa and are gradually taking over the entire continent in an Islamic wave. It is fanatics who bomb, behead, murder, or honor-kill. It is the fanatics who take over mosque after mosque. It is the fanatics who zealously spread the stoning and hanging of rape victims and homosexuals. It is the fanatics who teach their young to kill and to become suicide bombers.

The hard quantifiable fact is that the peaceful majority, the "silent majority," is cowed and extraneous. Communist Russia was comprised of Russians who just wanted to live in peace, yet the Russian Communists were responsible for the murder of about 20 million people. The peaceful majority were irrelevant. China’s huge population was peaceful as well, but Chinese Communists managed to kill a staggering 70 million people.

The average Japanese individual prior to World War II was not a warmongering sadist. Yet, Japan murdered and slaughtered its way across South East Asia in an orgy of killing that included the systematic murder of 12 million Chinese civilians; most killed by sword, shovel, and bayonet.

And, who can forget Rwanda, which collapsed into butchery. Could it not be said that the majority of Rwandans were "peace loving"?

History lessons are often incredibly simple and blunt, yet for all our powers of reason we often miss the most basic and uncomplicated of points: Peace-loving Muslims have been made irrelevant by their silence. Peace-loving Muslims will become our enemy if they don’t speak up, because like my friend from Germany, they will awaken one day and find that the fanatics own them, and the end of their world will have begun.

Peace-loving Germans, Japanese, Chinese, Russians, Rwandans, Serbs, Afghans, Iraqis, Palestinians, Somalis, Nigerians, Algerians, and many others have died because the peaceful majority did not speak up until it was too late.

As for us who watch it all unfold, we must pay attention to the only group that counts; the fanatics who threaten our way of life.

Lastly, anyone who doubts that the issue is serious and just ignores this warning, is contributing to the passiveness that allows the problems to expand. So, extend yourself a bit and share this with your friends and family! Let us hope that thousands, worldwide, read this and think about it, and share it - before it’s too late.

It is my prayer that the people of this country will wake up and quit being silent about the obvious threat to civilizations freedom.

Why We Speak English

A U.S. Navy Admiral was attending a naval conference that included Admirals from the U.S., English, Canadian, Australian and French Navies. At a cocktail reception, he found himself standing with a large group of Officers that included personnel from most of those countries.

Everyone was chatting away in English as they sipped their drinks but a French admiral suddenly complained that, ‘whereas Europeans learn many languages, Americans learn only English.’

He then asked, ‘Why is it that we always have to speak English in these conferences rather than speaking French?’

Without hesitating, the American Admiral replied ‘Maybe it’s because the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Americans arranged it so you wouldn’t have to speak German.’

Senator John McCain - American GI Forum

Senator John McCain at 2008 American GI Forum

This is a transcript of Presidential Candidate Senator John McCain as given before the 2008 American GI Forum of the United States National Convention, Denver, CO. We wish to credit the fine folks at www.RealClearPolitics.com for providing access to this transcript.

Ralph Peters is a retired Army officer, a strategist and columnist, and the author of the new book, "Wars Of Blood And Faith, The Conflicts That Will Shape the Twenty-First Century.”  Ralph writes regularly for www.RealClearPolitics.com. In his recent article "John McCain’s Integrity Problem", Ralph states: "Senator John McCain has an integrity problem: He has too  much of it. At a time when would-be presidential candidates in both parties alter their views depending on the prevailing winds, McCain stands up for what he truly believes.

And he’s paying for it.

McCain is the only presidential aspirant in either party who refuses to pander. It may cost him the election, as we, the people, reward those who tell us what pollsters decide we want to hear, rather than supporting the honorable few still willing to tell us uncomfortable truths."

Senator John McCain is a true hero American Valor style in the eyes of Dad and a large number of the Great Silent Majority.  Now, His speech:

Senator John McCain:  "Thank you for that kind introduction and warm welcome. I want to begin by talking about an issue in this campaign that I know concerns you as it concerns all Americans: the war in Iraq. Thankfully, the news from Iraq today is much more encouraging than I could have reported to you last year.

Eighteen months ago, America faced a crisis as profound as any in our history. Iraq was in flames, torn apart by violence that was escaping our control. Al Qaeda was succeeding in what Obama bin Laden called the central front in their war against us. The mullahs in Iran waited for America’s humiliation in Iraq, and the resulting increase in their influence. Thousands of Iraqis died violently every month. American casualties were mounting. We were on the brink of a disastrous defeat just a little more than five years after the attacks of September 11, and America faced a profound choice. Would we accept defeat and leave Iraq and our strategic position in the Middle East in ruins, risking a wider war in the near future? Or would we summon our resolve, deploy additional forces, and change our failed strategy? Senator Obama and I also faced a decision, which amounted to a real-time test for a future commander-in-chief. America passed that test. I believe my judgment passed that test. And I believe Senator Obama’s failed.

We both knew the politically safe choice was to support some form of retreat. All the polls said the "surge" was unpopular. Many pundits, experts and policymakers opposed it and advocated withdrawing our troops and accepting the consequences. I chose to support the new counterinsurgency strategy backed by additional troops — which I had advocated since 2003, after my first trip to Iraq. Many observers said my position would end my hopes of becoming president. I said I would rather lose a campaign than see America lose a war. My choice was not smart politics. It didn’t test well in focus groups. It ignored all the polls. It also didn’t matter. The country I love had one final chance to succeed in Iraq. The new strategy was it. So I supported it. Today, the effects of the new strategy are obvious. The surge has succeeded, and we are, at long last, finally winning this war.

Senator Obama made a different choice. He not only opposed the new strategy, but actually tried to prevent us from implementing it. He didn’t just advocate defeat, he tried to legislate it. When his efforts failed, he continued to predict the failure of our troops. As our soldiers and Marines prepared to move into Baghdad neighborhoods and Anbari villages, Senator Obama predicted that their efforts would make the sectarian violence in Iraq worse, not better.

And as our troops took the fight to the enemy, Senator Obama tried to cut off funding for them. He was one of only 14 senators to vote against the emergency funding in May 2007 that supported our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan. He would choose to lose in Iraq in hopes of winning in Afghanistan. But had his position been adopted, we would have lost both wars.

Three weeks after Senator Obama voted to deny funding for our troops in the field, General Ray Odierno launched the first major combat operations of the surge. Senator Obama declared defeat one month later: "My assessment is that the surge has not worked and we will not see a different report eight weeks from now." His assessment was popular at the time. But it couldn’t have been more wrong.

By November 2007, the success of the surge was becoming apparent. Attacks on Coalition forces had dropped almost 60 percent from pre-surge levels. American casualties had fallen by more than half. Iraqi civilian deaths had fallen by more than two-thirds. But Senator Obama ignored the new and encouraging reality. "Not only have we not seen improvements," he said, "but we’re actually worsening, potentially, a situation there."

If Senator Obama had prevailed, American forces would have had to retreat under fire. The Iraqi Army would have collapsed. Civilian casualties would have increased dramatically. Al Qaeda would have killed the Sunni sheikhs who had begun to cooperate with us, and the "Sunni Awakening" would have been strangled at birth. Al Qaeda fighters would have safe havens, from where they could train Iraqis and foreigners, and turn Iraq into a base for launching attacks on Americans elsewhere. Civil war, genocide and wider conflict would have been likely.

Above all, America would have been humiliated and weakened. Our military, strained by years of sacrifice, would have suffered a demoralizing defeat. Our enemies around the globe would have been emboldened. Terrorists would have seen our defeat as evidence America lacked the resolve to defeat them. As Iraq descended into chaos, other countries in the Middle East would have come to the aid of their favored factions, and the entire region might have erupted in war. Every American diplomat, American military commander, and American leader would have been forced to speak and act from a position of weakness.

Senator Obama told the American people what he thought you wanted to hear. I told you the truth. From the early days of this war, I feared the administration was pursuing a mistaken strategy, and I said so. I went to Iraq many times, and heard all the phony explanations about how we were winning. I knew we were failing, and I told that to an administration that did not want to hear it. I pushed for the strategy that is now succeeding before most people even admitted that there was a problem.

Fortunately, Senator Obama failed, not our military. We rejected the audacity of hopelessness, and we were right. Violence in Iraq fell to such low levels for such a long time that Senator Obama, detecting the success he never believed possible, falsely claimed that he had always predicted it. There have been almost no sectarian killings in Baghdad for more than 13 weeks. American casualties are at the lowest levels recorded in this war. The Iraqi Army is stronger and fighting harder. The Iraqi Government has met most of the benchmarks for political progress we demanded of them, and the nation’s largest Sunni party recently rejoined the government. In Iraq, we are no longer on the doorstep of defeat, but on the road to victory.

Senator Obama said this week that even knowing what he knows today that he still would have opposed the surge. In retrospect, given the opportunity to choose between failure and success, he chooses failure. I cannot conceive of a Commander in Chief making that choice.

A new hope is rising in Iraq today. Across the country, Iraqis are preparing for upcoming provincial elections. And security has improved enough to permit the Iraqi government to begin seriously providing services and opportunities to the Iraqi people. This progress is encouraging but reversible if we heed those who have always counseled defeat when they now argue to risk our fragile gains and withdraw from Iraq according to a politically expedient timetable rather than the advice from the commanders who so brilliantly led this stunning turnaround in our situation in Iraq.

I said that the surge has succeeded, and it has. That is why the additional surge brigades are almost all home. I said we can win, and we will. I’m confident we will be able to reduce our forces in Iraq next year, and our forces will be out of regular combat operations and dramatically reduced in number during the term of the next President. We have fought the worst battles, survived the toughest threats, and the hardest part of this war is behind us. But it is not over yet. And we have come too far, sacrificed too much, to risk everything we have gained and all we could yet gain because the politics of the hour make defeat the more convenient position.

Because of the choice we made and all the surge has accomplished, the time will soon come when our troops can come home. But we face another choice today. We can withdraw when we have secured the peace and the gains we have sacrificed so much to achieve are safe. Or we can follow Senator Obama’s unconditional withdrawal and risk losing the peace even if that results in spreading violence and a third Iraq war. Senator Obama has suggested he would consider sending troops back if that happened. When I bring them home in victory and with honor, they are staying home.

Senator Obama might dismiss defeat in Iraq as the current President’s problem. But presidents don’t lose wars. Nations do. And presidents don’t fight wars. You do, the men and women of the greatest fighting force in the history of the world. The sacrifices you’ve made deserve to be memorialized in something more lasting than bronze or in the fleeting effect of a politician’s speeches. Your valor and devotion have earned your country’s abiding concern for your welfare. When our government forgets our debts to you, it is a stain upon America’s honor. The Walter Reed scandal recalled not just the government but the people who elect it, to our responsibilities to those who risk life and limb to meet their responsibilities to us.

Those who have borne the burden of war for our sake must be treated fairly and expeditiously as they seek compensation for disability or illness. We owe them compassion, knowledge and hands-on care in their transition to civilian life. We owe them training, rehabilitation and education. We owe their families, parents and caregivers our concern and support. They should never be deprived of quality medical care and mental health care coverage for illness or injury incurred as a result of their service to our country.

As President, I will ensure that those who serve today and who have served in the past have access to the highest quality health, mental health and rehabilitative care in the world. The disgrace of Walter Reed will not be forgotten. Nor will we accept a situation in which veterans are denied access to care due to great travel distances, backlogs of appointments, and years of pending disability evaluation and claims. In addition to strengthening the VA, we should give veterans the option to use a simple plastic card to receive timely and accessible care at a convenient location through a provider of their choosing. I will not stand for requiring veterans to make an appointment to stand in line to make an appointment to stand in line for substandard care of the injuries you have suffered to keep our country safe. Whatever our commitments to veterans cost, we will keep them, as you have kept every commitment to us. The honor o f a great nation is at stake.

Let me close by expressing my gratitude for the contributions Hispanic-Americans have made to the security of the country I have served all my adult life. I represent Arizona where Spanish was spoken before English was, and where the character and prosperity of our state owes much to the Arizonans of Hispanic descent who live there. And I know this country, which I love more than almost anything, would be poorer were we deprived of the patriotism, industry and decency of those millions of Americans whose families came here from Mexico, Central and South America.

When you take the solemn stroll along that wall of black granite on the national Mall, it is hard not to notice the many names such as Rodriguez, Hernandez, and Lopez that so sadly adorn it. When you visit Iraq and Afghanistan you meet some of the thousands of Hispanic-Americans who serve there, and many of those who risk their lives to protect the rest of us do not yet possess the rights and privileges of full citizenship in the country they love so well. To love your country, as I discovered in Vietnam, is to love your countrymen. Those men and women are my brothers and sisters, my fellow Americans, an association that means more to me than any other. As a private citizen or as President, I will never, never do anything to dishonor our obligations to them and their families.

No story better exemplifies the sacrifices Hispanic Americans have made for our country than the story of Roy Benavidez. I have told it before, and this won’t be the last time I tell it. All Americans need to hear it.

Roy Benavidez was the son of a Texas sharecropper, a seventh grade dropout who suffered the humiliation of being constantly taunted as a "dumb Mexican." He grew up to become a master sergeant in the Green Berets, and served in Vietnam. He was a member of that rare class of warriors whose service was so honorable and brave they are privileged to wear the Medal of Honor. He was decorated by Ronald Reagan, who said that if the story of his heroism were a movie "you would not believe it."

On May 2, 1968, in an outpost near the Cambodian border, Sergeant Benavidez listened on his radio as the voice of a terrified American, part of a 12 man patrol surrounded by a North Vietnamese battalion, pleaded to be rescued. Armed with only a knife, Roy jumped into a helicopter and took off with a three-man crew to rescue his trapped comrades.

When they arrived at the battle, the enemy was too numerous for the helicopter to evacuate the surrounded soldiers. It had to land seventy-five yards away from their position. After making the sign of the cross, Sergeant Benavidez jumped out of the helicopter as it hovered ten feet above the ground, and ran toward his comrades carrying his knife and a medic bag.

He was shot almost immediately, but he got up and kept moving. A grenade knocked him down again, shrapnel tearing into his face. He got up and kept moving. Reaching the Americans’ position, he found four men dead, and all the others badly wounded. He armed himself with an enemy rifle, and began to treat the wounded, distribute ammunition and call in air strikes. He was shot again. He then ordered the helicopter to come in closer as he dragged the dead and wounded aboard. After he got all the wounded aboard, he ran back to retrieve classified documents from the body of a fallen soldier. He was shot in the stomach, and grenade fragments cut into his back. He got up and kept moving, and made it back to the helicopter.

The pilot was shot and the helicopter crashed. Roy pulled the wounded from the wreckage and radioed for air strikes and another helicopter. He kept fighting until air support arrived. He was shot several more times before a second helicopter landed. As he was carrying a wounded man toward it, a North Vietnamese soldier clubbed him with his rifle and stabbed him with a bayonet. Sergeant Benavidez fought him hand to hand, to death. After rescuing three more soldiers, he was finally flown with them to safety.

Bleeding profusely, and completely immobile, a doctor thought him to be dead. Roy was placed in a body bag, before anyone discovered he was still alive. He spent a year in hospitals recovering from seven serious gunshot wounds, twenty-eight shrapnel wounds, and bayonet wounds in both arms.

It took thirteen years for Roy Benavidez to receive his Medal of Honor. But it didn’t seem to matter to him. He stayed in the Army. The war, and his forgotten heroism never embittered him. He spent his retirement counseling troubled kids, encouraging them to stay in school and off drugs.

"I’m proud to be an American," Roy Benavidez said as he lay dying in a San Antonio hospital ten years ago. May God bless his soul. And may Americans, all Americans, be very proud that Roy Benavidez was one of us. I wouldn’t want to live in a country that didn’t recognize how much we needed such a good man.

I prefer to live in a bigger place. I prefer to live in a growing America, as proud of its variety as it is of the ideals that unite us. I prefer to live in a hopeful country. I prefer to live in Roy Benavidez’ America. Thank you very much."

John McCain, a U.S. Senator from Arizona, is the presumptive Republican presidential nominee.

A WORLD THAT STANDS AS ONE

This speech was presented by Barack Obama to a group in Berlin on Thursday, July 24, 2008.  Read it with an open mind and really, really think about what is being said here.

Thank you to the citizens of Berlin and to the people of Germany. Let me thank Chancellor Merkel and Foreign Minister Steinmeier for welcoming me earlier today. Thank you Mayor Wowereit, the Berlin Senate, the police, and most of all thank you for this welcome.

I come to Berlin as so many of my countrymen have come before. Tonight, I speak to you not as a candidate for President, but as a citizen — a proud citizen of the United States, and a fellow citizen of the world.

I know that I don’t look like the Americans who’ve previously spoken in this great city. The journey that led me here is improbable. My mother was born in the heartland of America, but my father grew up herding goats in Kenya. His father — my grandfather — was a cook, a domestic servant to the British.

At the height of the Cold War, my father decided, like so many others in the forgotten corners of the world, that his yearning — his dream — required the freedom and opportunity promised by the West. And so he wrote letter after letter to universities all across America until somebody, somewhere answered his prayer for a better life.

That is why I’m here. And you are here because you too know that yearning. This city, of all cities, knows the dream of freedom. And you know that the only reason we stand here tonight is because men and women from both of our nations came together to work, and struggle, and sacrifice for that better life.

Ours is a partnership that truly began sixty years ago this summer, on the day when the first American plane touched down at Templehof.

On that day, much of this continent still lay in ruin.  The rubble of this city had yet to be built into a wall. The Soviet shadow had swept across Eastern Europe, while in the West, America, Britain, and France took stock of their losses, and pondered how the world might be remade.

This is where the two sides met.  And on the twenty-fourth of June, 1948, the Communists chose to blockade the western part of the city. They cut off food and supplies to more than two million Germans in an effort to extinguish the last flame of freedom in Berlin.

The size of our forces was no match for the much larger Soviet Army. And yet retreat would have allowed Communism to march across Europe. Where the last war had ended, another World War could have easily begun. All that stood in the way was Berlin.

And that’s when the airlift began — when the largest and most unlikely rescue in history brought food and hope to the people of this city.

The odds were stacked against success. In the winter, a heavy fog filled the sky above, and many planes were forced to turn back without dropping off the needed supplies. The streets where we stand were filled with hungry families who had no comfort from the cold.

But in the darkest hours, the people of Berlin kept the flame of hope burning. The people of Berlin refused to give up. And on one fall day, hundreds of thousands of Berliners came here, to the Tiergarten, and heard the city’s mayor implore the world not to give up on freedom. "There is only one possibility," he said. "For us to stand together united until this battle is won The people of Berlin have spoken. We have done our
duty, and we will keep on doing our duty. People of the world: now do your duty People of the world, look at Berlin!"

People of the world — look at Berlin!

Look at Berlin, where Germans and Americans learned to work together and trust each other less than three years after facing each other on the field of battle.

Look at Berlin, where the determination of a people met the generosity of the Marshall Plan and created a German miracle; where a victory over tyranny gave rise to NATO, the greatest alliance ever formed to defend our common security.

Look at Berlin, where the bullet holes in the buildings and the somber stones and pillars near the Brandenburg Gate insist that we never forget our common humanity.

People of the world — look at Berlin, where a wall came down, a continent came together, and history proved that there is no challenge too great for a world that stands as one.

Sixty years after the airlift, we are called upon again. History has led us to a new crossroad, with new promise and new peril. When you, the German people, tore down that wall — a wall that divided East and West; freedom and tyranny; fear and hope — walls came tumbling down around the world. From Kiev to Cape Town, prison camps were closed, and the doors of democracy were opened. Markets opened too, and the spread of
information and technology reduced barriers to opportunity and prosperity. While the 20th century taught us that we share a common destiny, the 21st has revealed a world more intertwined than at any time in human history.

The fall of the Berlin Wall brought new hope. But that very closeness has given rise to new dangers — dangers that cannot be contained within the borders of a country or by the distance of an ocean.

The terrorists of September 11th plotted in Hamburg and trained in Kandahar and Karachi before killing thousands from all over the globe on American soil.

As we speak, cars in Boston and factories in Beijing are melting the ice caps in the Arctic, shrinking coastlines in the Atlantic, and bringing drought to farms from Kansas to Kenya.

Poorly secured nuclear material in the former Soviet Union, or secrets from a scientist in Pakistan could help build a bomb that detonates in Paris. The poppies in Afghanistan become the heroin in Berlin. The poverty and violence in Somalia breeds the terror of tomorrow. The genocide in Darfur shames the conscience of us all.

In this new world, such dangerous currents have swept along faster than our efforts to contain them. That is why we cannot afford to be divided. No one nation, no matter how large or powerful, can defeat such challenges alone. None of us can deny these threats, or escape responsibility in meeting them. Yet, in the absence of Soviet tanks and a terrible wall, it has become easy to forget this truth. And if we’re honest with
each other, we know that sometimes, on both sides of the Atlantic, we have drifted apart, and forgotten our shared destiny.

In Europe, the view that America is part of what has gone wrong in our world, rather than a force to help make it right, has become all too common. In America, there are voices that deride and deny the importance of Europe’s role in our security and our future. Both views miss the truth — that Europeans today are bearing new burdens and taking more responsibility in critical parts of the world; and that just as American
bases built in the last century still help to defend the security of this continent, so does our country still sacrifice greatly for freedom around the globe.

Yes, there have been differences between America and Europe. No doubt, there will be differences in the future. But the burdens of global citizenship continue to bind us together. A change of leadership in Washington will not lift this burden. In this new century, Americans and Europeans alike will be required to do more — not less. Partnership and cooperation among nations is not a choice; it is the one way, the only way,
to protect our common security and advance our common humanity.

That is why the greatest danger of all is to allow new walls to divide us from one another. The walls between old allies on either side of the Atlantic cannot stand. The walls between the countries with the most and those with the least cannot stand. The walls between races and tribes; natives and immigrants; Christian and Muslim and Jew cannot stand. These now are the walls we must tear down.

We know they have fallen before. After centuries of strife, the people of Europe have formed a Union of promise and prosperity. Here, at the base of a column built to mark victory in war, we meet in the center of a Europe at peace. Not only have walls come down in Berlin, but they have come down in Belfast, where Protestant and Catholic found a way to live together; in the Balkans, where our Atlantic alliance ended wars and
brought savage war criminals to justice; and in South Africa, where the struggle of a courageous people defeated apartheid. So history reminds us that walls can be torn down. But the task is never easy. True partnership and true progress requires constant work and sustained sacrifice. They require sharing the burdens of development and diplomacy; of progress and peace. They require allies who will listen to each other, learn
from each other and, most of all, trust each other.

That is why America cannot turn inward. That is why Europe cannot turn inward. America has no better partner than Europe. Now is the time to build new bridges across the globe as strong as the one that bound us across the Atlantic. Now is the time to join together, through constant cooperation, strong institutions, shared sacrifice, and a global commitment to progress, to meet the challenges of the 21st century. It was this
spirit that led airlift planes to appear in the sky above our heads, and people to assemble where we stand today. And this is the moment when our nations — and all nations — must summon that spirit anew.

This is the moment when we must defeat terror and dry up the well of extremism that supports it. This threat is real and we cannot shrink from our responsibility to combat it. If we could create NATO to face down the Soviet Union, we can join in a new and global partnership to dismantle the networks that have struck in Madrid and Amman; in London and Bali; in Washington and New York. If we could win a battle of ideas against
the communists, we can stand with the vast majority of Muslims who reject the extremism that leads to hate instead of hope.

This is the moment when we must renew our resolve to rout the terrorists who threaten our security in Afghanistan, and the traffickers who sell drugs on your streets. No one welcomes war. I recognize the enormous difficulties in Afghanistan. But my country and yours have a stake in seeing that NATO’s first mission beyond Europe’s borders is a success. For the people of Afghanistan, and for our shared security, the work must
be done. America cannot do this alone. The Afghan people need our troops and your troops; our support and your support to defeat the Taliban and al Qaeda, to develop their economy, and to help them rebuild their nation. We have too much at stake to turn back now.

This is the moment when we must renew the goal of a world without nuclear weapons. The two superpowers that faced each other across the wall of this city came too close too often to destroying all we have built and all that we love. With that wall gone, we need not stand idly by and watch the further spread of the deadly atom. It is time to secure all loose nuclear materials; to stop the spread of nuclear weapons; and to
reduce the arsenals from another era. This is the moment to begin the work of seeking the peace of a world without nuclear weapons.

This is the moment when every nation in Europe must have the chance to choose its own tomorrow free from the shadows of yesterday. In this century, we need a strong European Union that deepens the security and prosperity of this continent, while extending a hand abroad. In this century — in this city of all cities — we must reject the Cold War mind-set of the past, and resolve to work with Russia when we can, to stand up
for our values when we must, and to seek a partnership that extends across this entire continent.

This is the moment when we must build on the wealth that open markets have created, and share its benefits more equitably. Trade has been a cornerstone of our growth and global development. But we will not be able to sustain this growth if it favors the few, and not the many. Together, we must forge trade that truly rewards the work that creates wealth, with meaningful protections for our people and our planet. This is the
moment for trade that is free and fair for all.

This is the moment we must help answer the call for a new dawn in the Middle East. My country must stand with yours and with Europe in sending a direct message to Iran that it must abandon its nuclear ambitions. We must support the Lebanese who have marched and bled for democracy, and the Israelis and Palestinians who seek a secure and lasting peace. And despite past differences, this is the moment when the world should
support the millions of Iraqis who seek to rebuild their lives, even as we pass responsibility to the Iraqi government and finally bring this war to a close.

This is the moment when we must come together to save this planet. Let us resolve that we will not leave our children a world where the oceans rise and famine spreads and terrible storms devastate our lands. Let us resolve that all nations — including my own — will act with the same seriousness of purpose as has your nation, and reduce the carbon we send into our atmosphere. This is the moment to give our children back
their future. This is the moment to stand as one.

And this is the moment when we must give hope to those left behind in a globalized world. We must remember that the Cold War born in this city was not a battle for land or treasure. Sixty years ago, the planes that flew over Berlin did not drop bombs; instead they delivered food, and coal, and candy to grateful children. And in that show of solidarity, those pilots won more than a military victory. They won hearts and minds;
love and loyalty and trust — not just from the people in this city, but from all those who heard the story of what they did here.

Now the world will watch and remember what we do here — what we do with this moment. Will we extend our hand to the people in the forgotten corners of this world who yearn for lives marked by dignity and opportunity; by security and justice? Will we lift the child in Bangladesh from poverty, shelter the refugee in Chad, and banish the scourge of AIDS in our time?

Will we stand for the human rights of the dissident in Burma, the blogger in Iran, or the voter in Zimbabwe? Will we give meaning to the words "never again" in Darfur?

Will we acknowledge that there is no more powerful example than the one each of our nations projects to the world? Will we reject torture and stand for the rule of law? Will we welcome immigrants from different lands, and shun discrimination against those who don’t look like us or worship like we do, and keep the promise of equality and opportunity for all of our people?

People of Berlin — people of the world — this is our moment. This is our time.

I know my country has not perfected itself. At times, we’ve struggled to keep the promise of liberty and equality for all of our people. We’ve made our share of mistakes, and there are times when our actions around the world have not lived up to our best intentions.

But I also know how much I love America. I know that for more than two centuries, we have strived — at great cost and great sacrifice — to form a more perfect union; to seek, with other nations, a more hopeful world. Our allegiance has never been to any particular tribe or kingdom — indeed, every language is spoken in our country; every culture has left its imprint on ours; every point of view is expressed in our public
squares. What has always united us — what has always driven our people; what drew my father to America’s shores — is a set of ideals that speak to aspirations shared by all people: that we can live free from fear and free from want; that we can speak our minds and assemble with whomever we choose and worship as we please.

Those are the aspirations that joined the fates of all nations in this city. Those aspirations are bigger than anything that drives us apart. It is because of those aspirations that the airlift began. It is because of those aspirations that all free people — everywhere — became citizens of Berlin. It is in pursuit of those aspirations that a new generation — our generation — must make our mark on history.

People of Berlin — and people of the world — the scale of our challenge is great. The road ahead will be long. But I come before you to say that we are heirs to a struggle for freedom. We are a people of improbable hope. Let us build on our common history, and seize our common destiny, and once again engage in that noble struggle to bring justice and peace to our world.

What is a Veteran?

Then there was a conference in France where a number of international engineers were taking part, including French and American.

During a break one of the French engineers came back into the room saying ‘Have you heard the latest dumb stunt Bush has done? He has sent an aircraft carrier to Indonesia to help the tsunami victims. What does he intended to do, bomb them?’

A Boeing engineer stood up and replied quietly: ‘Our carriers have three hospitals on board that can treat several hundred people; they are nuclear powered and can supply emergency electrical power to shore facilities; they have three cafeterias with the capacity to feed 3,000 people three meals a day, they can produce several thousand gallons of fresh water from sea water each day, and they carry half a dozen helicopters for use in transporting victims and injured to and from their flight deck. We have eleven such ships; how many does France have? ‘

Crackdown on Blogs & eMails

Army Cracks Down On Blogs

It was just announced recently that friends and relatives of war zone military members who blog about the war may be in trouble for posting too much information online.

The guidelines apply to contractors, military members and their families.

"This is the final nail in the coffin for combat blogging," said retired paratrooper Matthew Burden, editor of The Blog of War anthology. "No more military bloggers writing about their experiences in the combat zone. This is the best PR the military has–its most honest voice out of the war zone–and it’s being silenced."

The Army has NOT said you CANNOT BLOG or EMAIL, they have simply said the items must be cleared by a superior officer.  This will make it very difficult, if not nearly impossible for some members to continue with their war Blogs.

We are going to have to approach this one very carefully.  I understand the need to keep track of loved ones, but…and this is a really big and dangerous but,  what if the information a loved one sends to you about their work, or location, or mission or their unit members just accidentally happens to have information, no matter how innocent, that if it got into the wrong hands could cause bodily harm or loss of life?

We have become so accustomed to having media coverage of battles that we are afraid when we can’t see. Who else is watching and reading these broadcasts and postings?  Think about this one long and hard before you fire up the flamethrower in anticipation of burning an evil administrator at the stake.

American Valor Military Tribute

American Valor Salutes Our Military

American Valor Salutes Our Military

Reading the news recently, I came across a couple articles that heralded the general public’s growing disinterest in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. They cite the public’s growing war fatigue and frustration.

The authors claim the public is disenchanted with our results in both locations. They don’t see Osama Bin Laden captured and facing justice. They do see our troops in Afghanistan chasing terrorists we can’t see. They see us in Iraq, close to oil, but nothing else, obviously forgetting that we caught Saddam Hussein.

They claim people are getting tired of coverage on two war fronts with no obvious victory in either theatre in the near future. The authors claim the general public is worried about the credit crunch, skyrocketing prices, especially oil related products. They are worried about losing their jobs. They are worried about the upcoming elections. They fear that with the two current choices they may have no more rosy future after the elections than they do now.

OK! I promised you in the beginning that I would do this:

THE FOLLOWING COMMENTS ARE STRICTLY AN OPINION OF ‘DAD’.

Now remember, Dad is a tired old veteran and a card carrying member of the Great Silent Majority. Most of all Dad is full of his own opinions and now they are coming out like a cannon ball and it is long-overdue. So here goes…

REMEMBER 9/11. That should be enough to stop the complaining.

Do you remember the crashes?…the smoke?…the screams? …the bodies falling through the air?…the flames?…the tremble in the ground?…the burning stench?…the monumental clouds of dust?…the nearly 3,000 human beings of all creeds and colors and shapes and sizes and beliefs who were violently crushed and cremated?

Have you ever watched newsreels of the Nazi Holocaust furnaces? Have you shivered as survivors likened the airborne ashes falling to the ground like dirty snow? Have you ever thought long and hard about the blood and bones and flesh and hearts and souls that were inside those clouds of dust boiling towards Heaven then collapsing to earth? Covering the streets and buildings and survivors with ashen dust? …and the tears?  The tears may never stop.

I have watched. I have listened. I am human.  I am guilty as charged. I wept as openly as anyone for days following 9/11. It finally happened "…on our own shores. In our own home! The unspeakable has happened at last."

Now fast forward to 2008. My company is closing our operation in about a year or so. I am nearly 61 and will begin looking for a new job. Frightening. I have watched this year as the "Credit Crisis" has eaten a big, uncomfortable hole in my retirement savings. I will probably have to work now until the day I die. My house is worth maybe half of what it was one year ago.

There are dozens of elected politicians scrambling to borrow money from our social security so they can pay benefits and subsidies and entitlements to…and provide food and shelter and education and health care for…about twenty million ILLEGAL ALIENS. We live in the greatest country on earth with a great immigration program, not always the most efficient, but it does work. Most of the people living in this country today are descendents of immigrants or immigrants themselves. This is America. We are a melting pot. That is what makes us unique. Our common language, our oneness of spirit and courage. A unique and specially blended heritage.  We stand as one nation under GOD!…and we ALWAYS will! But it takes organization and rules and enforcement and discipline. These people made the choice to ignore our rules…our laws…our programs…our entire system. When laws are broken…people are punished. When rules are broken…people are penalized.

In a lot of the countries these twenty million illegals came from,…if they intruded over their own borders they would be put into prison camps, maybe even tortured and shot. But not in America. We are civilized. This is the land of plenty…the land of opportunity…the land of freedom! So, as a result, these twenty million illegals will probably end up being allowed to stay here and ultimately be given citizenship and that is the American way. Hopefully most of them will begin paying taxes on their incomes like the rest of us do and this will all disappear into the night of history. That is the way freedom and liberty work. We may not like it…we may not agree with it…but all humans have rights…and the right to freedom from oppression is one of those basic rights of human life.

But, and this is the most painful truth associated with freedom, "…Someone has to pay for it". One person wants to give all our money to the United Nations to fight global poverty! Very noble indeed. Others want to give freedom to the oppressed countries of the world. Some want to save the animals.  Some want to save the environment.  Some want world peace. Some want free lunches. Some want one currency, one military force, one bank, one government, one world ruling body, joy, love, peace. As I said, there is always a price to be paid. In the case of the United Nations Millenium Declaration, all of those one this and one that generally come at the cost of one thing: our liberty and freedom.

Such is the case in Afghanistan and Iraq. You don’t have to agree with the wars or their outcomes. You don’t have to agree with anything I say, or anyone else for that matter. But this is the mind numbing, bone chilling truth as proven beyond all shadow of a doubt: 9/11 was our wakeup call! The terrorists caught us napping…off guard…on our own shores. If you do not want 9/11…if you do not want daily bombings…if you do not want daily artillery shells exploding in your neighborhood…if you do not want bombs blowing up in your subway stations or hospitals or schools or churches, then you have to go onto their shores to carry on the battle.

We are dealing with an terrorist enemy whom we cannot threaten. They do not fear death…they welcome it. They do not fear oppression…they thrive upon it. They do not fear anything. They speak openly of wanting to kill all the infidels who dishonor their soil and their way of life.

Now I remind you of a little history; this very same Osama bin Laden was smiling with gratitude when we came to his aid in Afghanistan and trained him and his people and helped them become free from their oppressors. But at the same time he was thinking…as soon as this is over, I am going to eliminate the entire American people for stepping on my soil. That is the reason our young men and women are serving so proudly in all arenas…to keep it out of our homes and off of our shores. Do you hear me?

I worry about losing my job while they face losing their lives. I get upset with my neighbor for spreading fertilizer on his fields while they worry about being sprayed with deadly chemicals. I complain about a lumpy mattress while they sleep on the ground, often in a foxhole for protection. I complain about rush hour traffic on the interstate while they worry about landmines in the roadway and ambushes. I worry about a missed episode of a TV show while they miss their families. I complain if I have to get up a few minutes early, they work days on end with little or no sleep. We complain about everything they do in combat while they do everything they do in combat to protect our freedom to complain.

So complain all you want. You are free to complain all you want and you are free to do it as often as you want. Someone bought and paid for your right to do that. That someone is the US Military with all its men and women serving so proudly. They paid the price for you. Many paid with their lives. Many paid with permanent disabilities and disfigurements and unrelenting pain. Some paid with the suffering of life-lasting mental anguish at all they had seen and done. Some paid the price by coming home to find their families gone. They couldn’t suffer the wait any more.

What price are you willing to pay for freedom? Isn’t it about time we stopped complaining and started constructing? Start constructing a grateful home and a grateful nation to welcome all our heroes home from war. This third part in the series was received today and bears continued reading and study. When Muslims become an increasing part of a country

Adapted from Dr. Peter Hammond’s book: Slavery, Terrorism and Islam

Contemporary Threat . . .

Islam - A SHORT SYNOPSIS OF HOW IT WORKS

Islam is not a religion nor is it a cult. It is a complete system.

Islam has religious, legal, political, economic and military components. The religious component is a beard for all the other components.

Islamization occurs when there are sufficient Muslims in a country to agitate for their so-called ‘religious rights.’

When politically correct and culturally diverse societies agree to ‘the reasonable’ Muslim demands for their ‘religious rights,’ they also get the other components under the table. Here’s how it works (percentages source CIA: The World Fact Book (2007)).

As long as the Muslim population remains around 1% of any given country they will be regarded as a peace-loving minority and not as a threat to anyone. In fact, they may be featured in articles and films, stereotyped for their colorful uniqueness:

United States — Muslim 1.0%
Australia — Muslim 1.5%
Canada — Muslim 1.9%
China — Muslim 1%-2%
Italy — Muslim 1.5%
Norway — Muslim 1.8%

At 2% and 3% they begin to proselytize from other ethnic minorities and disaffected groups with major recruiting from the jails and among street gangs:

Denmark — Muslim 2%
Germany — Muslim 3.7%
United Kingdom — Muslim 2.7%
Spain — Muslim 4%
Thailand — Muslim 4.6%

From 5% on they exercise an inordinate influence in proportion to their percentage of the population.

They will push for the introduction of halal (clean by Islamic standards) food, thereby securing food preparation jobs for Muslims. They will increase pressure on supermarket chains to feature it on their shelves — along with threats for failure to comply. (United States).

France — Muslim 8%
Philippines — Muslim 5%
Sweden — Muslim 5%
Switzerland– Muslim 4.3%
The Netherlands — Muslim 5.5%
Trinidad &Tobago — Muslim 5.8%

At this point, they will work to get the ruling government to allow them to rule themselv es under Sharia, the Islamic Law. The ultimate goal of Islam is not to convert the world but to establish Sharia law over the entire world.

When Muslims reach 10% of the population, they will increase lawlessness as a means of complaint about their conditions (Paris — car-burnings). Any non-Muslim action that offends Islam will result in uprisings and threats (Amsterdam — Mohammed cartoons).

Guyana — Muslim 10%
India — Muslim 13.4%
Israel — Muslim 16%
Kenya — Muslim 10%
Russia — Muslim 10-15%

After reaching 20% expect hair-trigger rioting, jihad militia formations, sporadic killings and church and synagogue burning:

Ethiopia — Muslim 32.8%

At 40% you will find widespread massacres, chronic terror attacks and ongoing militia warfare:

Bosnia — Muslim 40%
Chad — Muslim 53.1%
Lebanon — Muslim 59.7%

From 60% you may expect unfettered persecution of non-believers and other religions, sporadic ethnic cleansing (genocide), use of Sharia Law as a weapon and Jizya, the tax placed on infidels:

Albania — Muslim 70%
Malaysia — Muslim 60.4%
Qatar — Muslim 77.5%
Sudan — Muslim 70%

After 80% expect State run ethnic cleansing and genocide:

Bangladesh — Muslim 83%
Egypt — Muslim 90%
Gaza — Muslim 98.7%
Indonesia — Muslim 86.1%
Iran — Muslim 98%
Iraq — Muslim 97%
Jordan — Muslim 92%
Morocco — Muslim 98.7%
Pakistan — Musl im 97%
Palestine — Muslim 99%
Syria — Muslim 90%
Tajikistan — Muslim 90%
Turkey — Muslim 99.8%
United Arab Emirates — Muslim 96%

100% will usher in the peace of ‘Dar-es-Salaam’ — the Islamic House of Peace — there’s supposed to be peace because everybody is a Muslim:

Afghanistan — Muslim 100%
Saudi Arabia — Muslim 100%
Somalia — Muslim 100%
Yemen — Muslim 99.9%

Of course, that’s not the case. To satisfy their blood lust, Muslims then start killing each other for a variety of reasons.

‘Before I was nine I had learned the basic canon of Arab life. It was me against my brother; me and my brother against our father; my family against my cousins and the clan; the clan against the tribe; and the tribe against the world and all of us against the infidel’ — Leon Uris, ‘The Haj’

It is good to remember that in many, many countries, such as France, the Muslim populations are centered around ghettos based on their ethnicity. Muslims do not integrate into the community at large. Therefore, they exercise more power than their national average would indicate.

And we continue to cater and negotiate in a politically correct way so as not to ‘offend’ our Muslim ‘brothers.’

Now we know how it will happen

“The ability to deal with people is as purchasable a commodity as sugar or coffee and I will pay more for that ability than any other under the sun.”

John D. Rockefeller, industrialist

Islamic vs Jewish

This is really interesting.

The Global Islamic population is approximately 1,200,000,000 = ONE BILLION TWO HUNDRED MILLION — or 20% of the world’s population. They have received the following Nobel Prizes:

The Jews are not promoting brain washing the children in military training camps, teaching them how to blow themselves up and cause maximum deaths of Jews and other non Muslims!

The Jews don’t hijack planes, nor kill athletes at the Olympics or blow themselves up in German restaurants. There is not a single Jew that has destroyed a church. There is not a single Jew that protests by killing people. The Jews don’t traffic slaves, nor have leaders calling for Jihad and death to all the Infidels.

Perhaps the world’s Muslims should consider investing more in standard education and less in blaming the Jews for all their problems. Regardless of your feelings about the crisis between Israel and the Palestinians and Arab neighbors, even if you believe there is more culpability on Israel ’s part, the following two sentences really say it all:

‘If the Arabs put down their weapons today, there would be no more violence. If the Jews put down their weapons today, there would be no more Israel ‘ - Benjamin Netanyahu

60 Years Changes Everything!

Good morning from American Valor. Normally our posts are strictly military tributes. This post will definitely fall under the Opinion category and it is definitely our OPINION. Read it accordingly but do not bury your head in the sand. It doesn’t matter who you are, where you live, your religion, or sex. This is serious stuff. Pray for the United States and her people.
What a difference 60 years makes..!!!

I know everyone has a different opinion on the war and our current President, but this article makes a lot of sense and I hope you will take 2 minutes and read it and give it some thought.
I have never seen the "situation" expressed any better in words!
Recently, I was talking to a friend about the upcoming election and the candidates. As we ended our discussion he said, "The only decision you have to make is who you want sitting in that seat in the White House when - not if - we get hit again and millions of American lives are put at risk! You aren’t going to like losing."

President Bush did make a bad mistake in the war on terrorism, but the mistake was not his decision to go to war in Iraq. Bush’s mistake came in his belief that this country is the same one his father fought for in WWII. It is not.

Back then we had just come out of a vicious depression. The country was united by the hardship of that depression, but they still believed fervently in this country. They knew that the people had elected their leaders so it was the people’s duty to back those leaders.

Therefore, when the war broke out, the people came together, rallied behind and stuck with their leaders, whether they had voted for them or not or if the war was going badly or not.

And war was just as distasteful and the anguish just as great then as it is today. Often there were more casualties in one day in WWII than we have had in the entire Iraq war. But that did not matter. The people stuck with the President because it was their patriotic duty. Americans put aside their differences in WWII and worked together to win that war.

Everyone from every strata of society from young to old pitched in. Small children pulled little wagons around to gather scrap metal for the war effort. Grade school students saved their pennies to buy stamps for war bonds to help the effort.

Men who were too old or medically 4F lied about their age or condition trying their best to join the military. Women doubled their work to keep things going at home. Harsh rationing of everything from gasoline to soap to butter was imposed yet there was very little complaining. You never heard prominent people on the radio belittling the President. Interestingly enough in those days there were no fat cat actors and entertainers who ran off to visit and fawn over dictators of hostile countries and complain to them about our President. Instead they made upbeat films and entertained our troops to help the troops’ morale. And a bunch even enlisted.

And imagine this: Teachers in schools actually started the day off with a Pledge of Allegiance and with prayers for our country and our troops! Back then no newspaper would have dared point out certain weak spots in our cities where bombs could be set off to cause the maximum damage. No newspaper would have dared complain about what we were doing to catch spies.

A newspaper would have been laughed out of existence if it had complained that German or Japanese soldiers were being "tortured" by being forced to wear women’s underwear or subjected to interrogation by a woman or being scared by a dog or did not have air conditioning.

There were a lot of things different back then. We were not subjected to a constant bombardment of pornography, perversion, and promiscuity in movies or on radio. We did not have legions of crack heads, dope pushers, and armed gangs roaming our streets.

No, President Bush did not make a mistake in his handling of terrorism. He made the mistake of believing that we still had the courage and fortitude of our fathers. He believed that this was still the country that our fathers fought so dearly to preserve. It is not the same country. It is now a cross between Sodom and Gomorrah and the Land of Oz. We did unite for a short while after 9/11, but our attitude changed when we found out that defending our country would require some sacrifices.

We are in great danger. The terrorists are fanatic Muslims. They believe that it is okay, even their duty to kill anyone who will not convert to Islam. It has been estimated that about one third or over three hundred million Muslims are sympathetic to the terrorists’ cause… Hitler and Tojo combined did not have nearly that many potential recruits.

So, we either win it - or lose it - and you aren’t going to like losing.

America is not at war. The military is at war. America is at the mall. Take a couple of minutes to read this. Then I ask that you THINK ABOUT IT when you vote in November. Voting Democrat or Republican is most definitely YOUR CHOICE. Just remember what you have just read.

eMail from One ‘Angry Woman’

eMail from One ‘Angry Woman’

One angry American woman who loves God, Country and Freedom has let her heart out on paper.   I must warn you ahead of time that this one goes straight for the throat.  So, if you are easily offended you may not want to listen to her story.  She has a definite opinion and is not bashful about it.  This one hit the email forward campaigns recently.

My message to the thousands of men and women serving in the military today is this:  The world is full of noisy people who are always being heard.  But, as President Nixon said, “…there is a great silent majority out there who are fed up with the way things are…” and they are about to wake up and tell the world.

I don’t know the lady who wrote this, but she should have signed it. These are some very powerful words. This woman should run for president. It is only known that she is a housewife from New Jersey. This is one ticked off lady  and I believe she is part of that “great silent majority”.  She writes:

‘Are we fighting a war on terror or aren’t we? Was it or was it not started by Islamic people who brought it to our shores on September 11, 2001?

Were people from all over the world, mostly Americans, not brutally murdered that day, in downtown Manhattan, across the Potomac from our nation’s capitol and in a field in Pennsylvania ?

Did nearly three thousand men, women and children die a horrible, burning or crushing death that day, or didn’t they?

And I’m supposed to care that a copy of the Koran was ‘desecrated’ when an overworked American soldier kicked it or got it wet? …Well, I don’t. I don’t care at all.

I’ll start caring when Osama bin Laden turns himself in and repents for incinerating all those innocent people on 9/11.

I’ll care about the Koran when the fanatics in the Middle East start caring about the Holy Bible, the mere possession of which is a crime in Saudi Arabia

I’ll care when these thugs tell the world they are sorry for chopping off Nick Berg’s head while Berg screamed through his gurgling slashed throat.

I’ll care when the cowardly so-called ‘insurgents’ in Iraq come out and fight like men instead of disrespecting their own religion by hiding in mosques.

I’ll care when the mindless zealots who blow themselves up in search of nirvana care about the innocent children within range of their suicide.

I’ll care when the American media stops pretending that their First Amendment liberties are somehow derived from international law instead of the United States Constitution’s Bill of Rights.

In the meantime, when I hear a story about a brave marine roughing up an Iraqi terrorist to obtain information, know this: I don’t care.

When I see a fuzzy photo of a pile of naked Iraqi prisoners who have been humiliated in what amounts to a college-hazing incident, rest assured: I don’t care.

When I see a wounded terrorist get shot in the head when he is told not to move because he might be booby-trapped, you can take it to the bank: I don’t care …

When I hear that a prisoner, who was issued a Koran and a prayer mat, and fed ’special’ food that is paid for by my tax dollars, is complaining that his holy book is being ‘mishandled,’ you can absolutely believe in your heart of hearts: I don’t care.

And oh, by the way, I’ve noticed that sometimes it’s spelled ‘Koran’ and other times ‘Quran.’ Well, Jimmy Crack Corn and-you guessed it - I don’t care!!

If you agree with this viewpoint, pass this on to all your E-mail friends. Sooner or later, it’ll get to the people responsible for this ridiculous behavior!

If you don’t agree, then by all means hit the delete button. Should you choose the latter, then please don’t complain when more atrocities committed by radical Muslims happen here in our great Country! And may I add:

‘Some people spend an entire lifetime wondering if they made a difference in the world. But, the Marines don’t have that problem’ — Ronald Reagan

I have another quote that I would like to add AND….I hope you forward all this.

‘If we ever forget that we’re One Nation Under God, then we will be a nation gone under.’ - - also by Ronald Reagan.

One last thought for the day:

In case we find ourselves starting to believe all the Anti-American sentiment and negativity, we should remember England’s Prime Minister Tony Blair’s words during a recent interview. When asked by one of his Parliament members why he believes so much in America, he said: ‘A simple way to take measure of a country is to look at how many want in…And how many want out.’

The last thing, by the way, that we should do is to elect as President of the United States, someone who claims to love America yet, WILL NOT salute the flag, WILL NOT pledge allegiance to our flag, and sat in a church listening to a ‘pastor’ that HATES America!  Are you (term deleted)’ kidding me?

Only two defining forces have ever offered to die for you:

1. JESUS CHRIST

2. THE AMERICAN G. I.

One died for your soul, the other for your freedom.

YOU MIGHT WANT TO PASS THIS ON, AS MANY SEEM TO FORGET BOTH OF THEM.

AMEN!

Military Valor Roll of Honor

S. 2610 would amend title 10, United States Code, to require the establishment of a searchable database containing the names and citations of members of the Armed Forces, members of the United States merchant marine, and civilians affiliated with the Armed Forces who have been awarded the medal of honor or any other medal authorized by Congress for the Armed Forces, the United States merchant marine, or affiliated civilians.

Don’t Sacrifice Freedom for a Free Lunch

We just received this email today.  It obviously had been forwarded hundreds or even thousands of times.  It starts out as and attention getting little innocent story and by the end of it you are pulling out your hair saying "Good grief".  This really could be happening.  Maybe, just maybe we better re-evaluate the candidates and their platforms more closely to see if any of
this is present.  Men and women are giving their lives in defense of our freedoms every year of our lives.  We cannot afford to throw their sacrifices down the drain and so easily give up our freedoms.

Think and study hard before the elections.  Vote as if your life and your freedom depended on it.  It just may.

‘There is no dignity quite so impressive, and no independence quite so important, as living within your means.’

Calvin Coolidge

There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab, the Prof noticed one young man (an exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country’s government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, ‘Do you know how to catch wild pigs?’

The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line. The young man said this was no joke.. ‘You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat
the corn a gain and you put up another side of the fence They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side. The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat, you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd.

Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

The young m
